High resolution cameras are usually equipped with a rolling shutter, which is easier to manufacture but can cause problems, especially in applications with moving objects. The new industrial cameras hr49, hr51 and hr65 from SVS-Vistek offer an extremely wide range of applications with their combination of high resolution, global shutter and modern interfaces.

Gpixel sensors as an excellent basis

The Gpixel GMAX sensors used in the new HR camera models are a high-performance alternative to the already discontinued CCD and CMOS cameras. All cameras presented below have a global shutter.
As a special feature, SVS-Vistek has implemented a novel image optimization for the CMOS sensor used in the HR camera series. In the manufacturing process of CMOS sensors, there are often slightly different sensitivity gradients that have to be corrected by the camera. Stitched sensors like the hr51 sensor from Gpixel therefore require a sophisticated adjustment of the respective sensor gradients, which also takes into account different sensor-side beam paths of lenses. The novel sensor correction developed by SVS-Vistek compensates for these effects for both entocentric and telecentric lenses and also allows conventional corrections such as FPN (fixed pattern noise) or Bad Pixel. The result is images with excellent homogeneity, detail and dynamic range.

Model evolution

Until recently, the KAI29050 sensor from ON Semiconductor was popular for 4:3 aspect ratio applications and was integrated into SVS-Vistek's hr29 cameras. The new hr51 with a pixel size of 4.6 µm can replace these cameras with similar pixel size and sensor dimensions mostly with the same lens 1:1 or enables the use of extremely economical lens alternatives. Users benefit from nearly double the resolution (8424 x 6032 pixels) at more than double the frame rate of up to 30 fps.

If the application requires a square sensor, SVS-Vistek's new hr49 is perfect: With a square resolution of about 7000 x 7000 pixels, 3.2 µm pixels and a speed of 17 fps (10GigE), it cuts a fine figure and is compatible with very many lenses on the market. Incidentally, the same square aspect ratio and sensor size is also offered by the hr25 with a resolution of 25 megapixels and - of course - global shutter.
The largest resolution of 65 megapixels of these three new introductions is offered by the new hr65 with 9344 x 7000 pixels. Despite its high resolution, it has large pixels of 3.2 µm, allowing the use of many commercially available lenses. SVS-Vistek's hr65 is currently the most affordable 65 megapixel camera with global shutter in APS-C format. Like its little sister hr49, it achieves an impressive 17 fps with its modern 10GigE interface.

Fast high-resolution images

Existing low resolution applications can easily be migrated by switching to one of these three cameras, offering higher resolutions at higher speeds due to modern interfaces. Attractively priced lenses can be used due to the large pixels. An existing lens can usually be reused without any problems, making the switch to hr49, hr51 or hr65 economically very attractive in existing applications as well as in new projects.
The fast image acquisition in combination with a global shutter as well as powerful interfaces offer users a strong option for tasks where moving objects are to be inspected with high resolution in color or monochrome. SVS-Vistek offers several models of these HR cameras with Camera Link 80-bit, 10GigE or CoaXpress, providing flexibility in choosing the best interface for the respective application. Like all SVCams, all versions of the hr49, hr51 and hr65 high-resolution cameras feature a 4-channel strobe controller integrated in the GenICam tree and, thanks to the use of the GenTL standard, are suitable for easy combination with all established software packages on the market.
